Mitsubishi Motors Thailand’s Factory 3 Recognized with Green Star-White Flag Award 2024 by the Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand

BANGKOK – February 10, 2025:  Mitsubishi Motors (Thailand) Co., Ltd.’s Factory 3 recently received the Green Star-White Flag Award from the Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand (IEAT) in recognition of the automaker’s excellence across all five evaluation criteria including Physical Dimension, Economic Dimension, Environmental Dimension, Social Dimension, and Management Dimension. Following in the footsteps of Factories 1 and 2 which received the same award last year, the latest award underscores Mitsubishi Motors Thailand’s vision to sustainable development, improving the quality of life for local communities, and contributing to the advancement of Thai society.

 

The objectives of the Green Star-White Flag Award include seeking enhancements to community involvement in plant inspection and monitoring within industrial areas, while promoting good governance, environmental awareness, and social responsibility. It also fosters trust and confidence among all stakeholders in factory management, while establishing transparency and standards for industries and communities to coexist and grow sustainably.

 

Mitsubishi Motors Thailand’s Factory 3 recognized for excellence in all five dimensions, begins with the Physical Dimension with excellent management of overall physical resources, including the utilization of the environmentally friendly materials.  Under the Economic Dimension, it was recognized for its MMTh Talent Internship Program that provides students with practical training in its modern factories, and for its promotion of local and community economy by allowing community shops to sell products in designated areas within the factory, promoting employment.

 

Under the Environmental Dimension, Factory 3 was recognized for various categories including its Environmental Certification Standards for Green Industry Level 4 (Green Culture) by the Ministry of Industry and the Environmental Certification Standards for Environmental Governance and Eco-Industrial certified by the IEAT, its Pollution Control Systems and Personnel that includes wastewater management system with water recycling in the paint spraying system, industrial waste management system with zero landfill policy, the promotion of waste separation within the organization, the use of environmentally-friendly materials including water-based paint in the paint spraying process, and air quality management systems such as Regenerative Thermal Oxidizer to eliminate VOCs before releasing air into the environment. For energy conservation, the factory has installed solar panels on the Factory 3 roof capable of 7.6 MW, reducing CO2 emissions by 6,200 tons per year, LED lighting systems and other high-efficiency and energy-saving projects and innovations that help reduce CO2 emissions, and the commitment to environmental initiatives also extends to a Green Procurement Policy which procures environmentally friendly products without hazardous heavy metals. Its ‘Roots of Sustainability’ project that increases mangrove forest areas to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and paves the way for sustainable environmental practices
in Thailand.

 

For Social Dimension, it was recognized for its Waste Separation and Recycling Education Project, Internal Organization Projects that include its Scholarship Program that provides 100 scholarships annually to outstanding students to promote educational equality in Thai society, Solar Power System Donation Project that has donated more than 50 kW of solar power systems to 40 community hospitals within 10 years, Charity Run Project that supports hospitals in the Chonburi province, Continuous Employment Promotion for Disabled Persons in collaboration with the Social Innovation Foundation and its White Factory Standard certification by the Department of Labor Protection and Welfare for the company’s promotion of anti-drug activities.

 

Under the Management Dimension, Factory 3 received excellent marks for its ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 certifications from TÜV, Green Industry Level 4 certification, and its Green Procurement Policy.

 

The Green Star-White Flag Award was established by the IEAT in the Map Ta Phut Industrial Estate in 2007 to promote excellence in good governance, environmental practices, and project safety by encouraging public involvement in industrial area inspections and monitoring, fostering confidence and trust in the factories’ operations. Comprising two categories, 177 factories were granted the ‘Green Star – White Flag’ Award in 2024 while 51 factories received the ‘Gold Star – White’ Award, all in recognition of their environmental efforts.
